蟒蛇是一種大型原始蛇類，廣泛分布於全球的熱帶和溫帶地區。世界上大約有20種，多為陸棲或半水棲，也有的是樹棲。蟒蛇身體粗壯，屬於無毒蛇，體色多為褐色、綠色或淡黃色，並有斑紋或菱形花紋。
生活中，養寵物的人很多，而且養的寵物也是五花八門，除了日常常見的貓、狗，小倉鼠之類的，很多人還會去養蜘蛛，鱷魚，以至是一些不常見的冷血動物。這不，在國外就有一位女士，養了一條巨蟒當寵物，這聽著都挺嚇人的。
這條蟒蛇剛買來時很小，體積和長度都不大，但是隨著時間的流逝，這條蟒蛇越來越龐大，脾性也跟著變化，飯量也越來越大，這讓女子有點不安了。
她的朋友有勸她把這條蟒蛇放生，女子的家裡有個嬰兒，還有個老奶奶，這都是要思索的，不過女子表示這條蟒蛇是本人一手帶大的，它對女子來說就像家庭成員一樣，有點捨不得了，她要思索看看。有一天，女子遺忘給這條蟒蛇喂食了，回家時發現這條蟒蛇圓滾滾的，這把女子嚇的不清，她以為蟒蛇吃掉了她的孩子。
不過看到婆婆和孩子都相安無事，這才讓女子安心下來，可蟒蛇肚子裡面是什麼呢？這讓女子十分驚訝，之後女子叫來了警察和專家，想看看蛇到底吃了什麼東西。
經過專家們的處置，蛇吐出來的是女子的一隻寵物貓，蟒蛇這時正準備消化呢，不幸了本人的寵物貓死前應該很失望吧。這件事讓女子非常傷心，女子最終決議放生這條蟒蛇。
與大部分蛇一樣，莽蛇是巨大的獨居動物。他們沒有什麼社會活動。只是在交尾和產仔時，幾條相同種類的蟒蛇才會聚在一起。他們的身軀常常是纏繞在樹乾上，或者是盤繞在巖石下面。
